What the heck is an “always-on agent” - and should you care?
An always-on agent is an AI that runs in the background continuously. Same AI brain as what you’re using in chat, but always there, always listening. You communicate with it through Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram - wherever you already work. And while you’re having a conversation with it on the front end, it’s spinning up sub-agents in the background to actually do the work.
I have agents right now that are always watching for new posts from the top AI vendors. The moment something gets published, I get a text. In real time. That’s a very different kind of working relationship than a chat session.
We’re early - very early. But the direction is clear: The future is an ecosystem of agents with specific jobs, communicating with each other and with you, showing up as part of the team. I’m already seeing organizations experimenting with half a dozen of these running in parallel.
